JG-I think maybe you have a special way of sensing when the weather is going to get bad and have a "fleeing" mechanism built in! Birds migrate before winter, you leave before disaster! Some with arthritis feel pain in their joints before a storm, you feel the need to travel!:-) Kitten Whiskers

OK. I'm hooked. If this is a weekly series, I hope you don't do reruns like t.v. and keep us hanging! Thank you for sharing your story. Glad to see you here. This site is truly helpful and enlightening. Aye? A little canadian accent for you! I am from Michigan and we were neighbors! Now, in Georgia, they don't seem to take those canadian coins at the stores like in Michigan! I wonder why. LOL Looking forward to your next sharing. Kitten Whiskers

What Does YOUR Town Do?
by Sunspot inmy hubby, our grandson, our son, and me.... took a trip down to syracuse to see the "lights on the lake" display.
it is two miles of road through a park along onondaga lake, and it is crammed with all kinds of lighted exhibits with every imaginable christmas creature and every possible theme (and then some) included!
there were even menorahs and displays for hannukkah!

We missed ours! The kids were too sick to go, but a nearby town had a parade and Santa and the tree lighting in the old downtown historic area. It is a quaint little town with some antique and boutique shops. A nice place to take the kids. Maybe next year. The elementary school had a Santa come after school hours to do professional photos. We took them to that and I think it was more special than waiting in line at the mall for their 1st photos. Hubby heard from a guy at work that there is an amazing light display in the (rich) subdivision where he lives. They even are supposed to have mr and mrs clause come by. So we have to drive through that soon.

Can I still smile at you?:-) Don't shoo me away!lol I hope you enjoy a few tasty goodies though! At least for me, winter is a time for comfort food. I loved my grandma's chex mix and caramel popcorn that came around to us every year whether we celebrated xmas or not! Here's hoping your tastebuds enjoy the winter goodies! Kitten Whiskers

Dave, I feel for you. My father-in-law who was an elder all the time his kids were growing up will from time to time apologize to my hubby that he wasn't there for him. I think it is quite common for elders children to get the short end of the stick. My dad wasn't a jw, but he didn't talk much either. But he cared and showed it other ways. Sometimes we have to look for the blessings we did have and try harder for our kids. Like a warm, dry home. A bed and food in our bellies. The fact he went to work and supported us. I wish you peace. I have a hard time with my mom who was a jw and the things she put us through. Things are getting better. Alot has to do with me talking to her about it. Of course she defended herself and didn't really feel for my suffering, but she did apologize for hurting me and that has helped me to let it go and move on as an adult instead of the pain of a child that is inside. I know my kids have a lot they can complain about with my quick ability to yell. But I try to give so much love and hugs and kisses that hopefully they will know how much we love them and tried. Parents aren't perfect. I'm not. I tried to indoctrinate them from infancy with cult teachings. May they and God forgive me! May you find peace Dave and heal. Kitten Whiskers

Thanks guys! (I am apologizing for the lack of paragraphs!I don't know what is wrong. My computer guru of a husband will have to tell me later) Anyway, LOVELYLIL-I am glad I went too. I would be upset right now wondering when "they" would be back. The elders. But instead I am in control. I don't care when they come back. Just hope it doesn't cause family problems. My mother-in-law just got reinstated this past Thursday and I am sickened by what she went through for these stupid rules. She missed so much of her only daughters wedding 2 months ago. I won't ever forget what I witnessed in the bridal room as she helped her daughter get ready and then had to skulk off to view the wedding and sit in truck all night only 3 male family members went to visit her. (Her sons and one of her brothers) God what an awful day. So, in light of this, I know we will most likely be shunned except for when they want the children. That is what kills me. My husband has no family to fall back on except us and my dad and my grandmothers.Thank God they all love him and let him know. This IS our kids first christmas and ours too. Last year, my hubby was ready but I wasn't. Had my doubts but not deprogrammed yet. Now my kids are singing chirstmas carols LOUDLY in the stores. I no longer look around to see if anyone is watching as I look at holiday merchandise. Buying that first birthday card was a doozy. The kids are ecstatic and having a blast shopping. Our son had a dr. appt. and had to miss the afternoon of school and bought his sisters present and already bought one for his dad too. He's only 5. This weekend we'll do more and Friday they get their picture taken with Santa at school. I am so glad your kids are having a great holiday too. Congratulations lovelylil! Give them some christmas greetings for me! AK-JEFF You are right on that I am not too upset. I would rather it hit before they show up for us like they have for some here on xmas morning! How rude. But for kids and hubby, hopefully not at all. His folks have a layover at the airport close by on Dec. 24th and we are supposed to go see them for a couple hours at airport. Yikes. I can only imagine how packed it will be. I don't want anything to ruin our holidays. The kids have been so careful when talking on the phone not to let anything slip. They are 5 and 7. I know when it is all over there will be a great deal of relief that way. Thanks for the replies. Kitten Whiskers

Dear on the way out, I think you are to be commended. You are a very conscientious person and I like that in people. I like the idea of figuring in all the time you didn't report and using it now. I also think it's quite true that you have witnessed to quite a few on the discussion board. No doubt there are some who are not baptized reading your posts!:-) I remember dreading handing in that time card. At least I had two little ones I could "time" for teaching. I read them the bible, not the literature. I make it easier for you. Wish I could. I do remember a little boy handing in a service report (He could barely write) He wrote an elders name down (mis-spelled of course) and put in the most ridiculous amount of hours and placements that the m.s. emptying the box started laughing when it fell open! He had like a million magazines and 4,000 hours!!!!!lol Kitten Whiskers
